The 2017 USTA League National Championships season comes to a close this weekend, as the USTA National Campus is set to host the 55 & Over 7.0/9.0 divisions. A total of 65 men’s and women’s teams will be in action with the hopes of claiming a national title.

Play is set to begin at 7 a.m. on Friday morning, as action in the 15 flights will kick off over the course of the day. Round robin duals within those flights will run through Saturday evening, at which time the teams moving on to the semifinals will be decided. Semifinal matchups are scheduled for 7 a.m. on Sunday morning and the championship tilts will follow.

In the 7.0 division, all 17 USTA Sections are represented on the women’s side, while all but the Caribbean Section will take part in the men’s competition. For the 9.0 division, the women are without squads from Caribbean, Eastern, and Northern; the men will feature all 17 Sections.

Both 7.0 fields along with the 9.0 men consist of four flights, meaning only the top flight finishers will advance to the championship semifinals. The 9.0 women feature just three flights, allowing for a wild card team to move on along with the three flight winners.

In last year’s 7.0 Championships, Southern California reached both the men’s and women’s final, with the women taking down Eastern 2-1 and the men coming up short against Northern by the same margin. The 9.0 winners were the Southern women, victorious against Texas 2-1, and the Southern California men, which swept Mid-Atlantic.

A full breakdown of each flight and match schedule for all divisions can be found here.

Established in 1980, USTA League has grown from 13,000 players in a few parts of the country in its first year to more than 900,000 players across the nation today, making it the world’s largest recreational tennis league.

USTA League was established to provide adult recreational players throughout the country with the opportunity to compete against players of similar ability levels. Players participate on teams in a league format, which is administered by the USTA through its 17 sections. The league groups players by using six National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) levels, ranging from 2.5 (entry) to 5.0 (advanced). USTA League is open to any USTA member 18 years of age or older.
