The first of two USTA Junior Team Tennis national championships to be held at the National Campus gets underway this Friday, Sept. 22, as the 14U Nationals are set to take over the hard courts for three straight days of match play.

A total of 32 teams, 16 in the Advanced draw and 16 in the Intermediate draw, from across 16 of the USTA’s sections will converge on the National Campus in pursuit of the prestigious JTT national crown. Using the World Team Tennis format, each team dual match will feature five individual matchups – boys’ singles, girls’ singles, boys’ doubles, girls’ doubles and mixed doubles. The squads will first compete in round robin flight play before advancing on to the knockout rounds of the event.

Following practice days on Wednesday and Thursday, first matches will be on court at 8:00 am Friday morning on both the Team USA and Collegiate courts. Friday and Saturday will feature group play, with match time slots slated for 9:00 am, 10:30 am, 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm on both days. Following the 10:30 am matches on Saturday the tournament transitions to its playoff rounds for the afternoon, with the team champions to be crowned on Sunday.

Established in 1991, USTA Junior Team Tennis provides youth with all of the health and social benefits of tennis in a coed, fun and competitive environment – all while allowing participants to compete with and against individuals of similar ages and skill levels.

With more than 85,000 players competing nationwide, USTA Junior Team Tennis brings players together to enjoy camaraderie and teamwork, providing a fun environment for kids to learn that succeeding is really more about how they play the game – win or lose.

Each year the USTA crowns a national champion in two age divisions (14U and 18U) in both the Intermediate and Advanced classifications. In last year’s 14U competition, the USTA Mid-Atlantic Section representative took home the Advanced crown while the USTA Caribbean team came through in the Intermediate division.
