USTA Florida’s top players in the 10 & under age division will be at the USTA National Campus this weekend, as the 2018 “Bobby Curtis” Green Ball Sectional Championships are set to take place Saturday, Sept. 29 and Sunday, Sept. 30 on the Team USA hard courts.

The event features a total of 59 players (32 boys and 27 girls) competing in two 32-player compass draws. Match play is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. both days and run through the afternoon.

For the boys, a full draw means no byes for any of the top seeds. Palm Coast’s Daniel Patsula, who was on Campus just two weeks ago playing in the boys’ 12s and mixed 12s divisions of the “Bobby Curtis” Sectional Doubles Championships, has earned the No. 1 seed. Maddox Bose of Winter Haven is seeded second. This will be his third tournament at the Campus in two months, having also taken part in the “Bobby Curtis” Sectional Doubles Championships along with the 101st ATA National Championships in August, where he advanced to the boys’ 12s singles final and won the boys’ 12s doubles title.

The remaining boys’ seeds include No. 3 Jack Lindstrom (Satellite Beach), No. 4 Keane Chambers (Boca Raton), No. 5 Andrew Shkotkin (Palm Coast), No. 6 Maxim Persiyanov (Palm Coast), No. 7 Oliver Yogel (Boca Raton), and No. 8 Stanislav Valenteychik (Palm Coast).

With only 27 girls in the draw, the top five seeds have received a bye in the opening round. No. 1 McKenna Battilla (Auburndale) has had a busy month, with this being her fourth tournament in September. That includes the “Bobby Curtis” Sectional Doubles Championships plus the Coleman Junior Level 6, where she did not surrender a set en route to earning the singles crown. Conversely, No. 2 seed Ilya Messler (Largo) has not competed in a sanctioned event in over a month; Messler booked her spot in this weekend’s Championships after winning the Innisbrook Champs Level 6 Green Ball qualifier in April.

Rounding out the seeded girls are No. 3 Chelsea Casapu (Naples), No. 4 Samantha Herrera (Miami), No. 5 Gia Cacenco (Hollywood), No. 6 Riddhi Thakur (Naples), No. 7 Te’anna Mata (Naples), and No. 8 Alessia Franco (Miami).
