2018 USTA Florida August Level 5 Championships

Play Kicks Off Saturday Morning

USTA Florida brings its junior play back to the USTA National Campus this weekend, as boys and girls from across the Sunshine State will compete in the 12s through 18s divisions. Matches are slated to begin on Saturday, August 4 at 8:00 a.m. Action will run through Monday afternoon when champions are crowned.

Each of the eight draws feature 32 players, with a feed-in consolation through the round of 16. Matches will consist of two tiebreak sets with a 10-point match tiebreak in lieu of a full third set. The round of 32 and round of 16 is scheduled to be contested on Saturday, with the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds played out on Sunday.

All divisions will take place on the National Campus hard courts with the exception of the boys' 14s, which will see all of its matches on clay.

For the event, seeds were determined based on the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of the competitors, which is being by USTA Florida for seeding purposes in all Level 3, 4, and 5 tournaments for the remainder of the year. Additionally, coaching will be allowed on changeovers and set breaks. Each player is allowed one designated coach.

This weekend’s top seeds include Nicholas Reeves (Boca Raton) – boys’ 12s; Facundo Olmedo (Doral) – boys’ 14s; Tom Grosjean (Boca Raton) – boys’ 16s; David Burns (Fleming Island) – boys’ 18s; Sam Grosjean (Boca Raton) – girls’ 12s; Chelsea Bluestein (Naples) – girls’ 14s; Ava Givone (Delray Beach) – girls’ 16s; and Stephanie Sanchez (Hollywood) – girls’ 18s.
