2018 USTA Junior Team Tennis 14U National Championships
Action Takes to the Courts Starting Friday
November 1, 2018

Back at the USTA National Campus for the second consecutive year, the 2018 edition of the USTA Junior Team Tennis 14 & Under National Championships is set to get underway the morning of Friday, Nov. 2. Play will overtake the 32 hard courts across the Campus for the duration of the weekend.
The event will feature 32 teams in total, with 16 competing in the Advanced division and another 16 taking part in the Intermediate division. All Sections besides Intermountain will have a team vying for the Intermediate title. In Advanced action, Caribbean, Florida, Intermountain, Midwest, Middle States and Southwest have not entered a squad into the field; meanwhile, Eastern, Hawaii, Northern, Southern and Texas have two teams.
Using the World Team Tennis format, each team dual match will feature five individual matchups – boys’ singles, girls’ singles, boys’ doubles, girls’ doubles and mixed doubles. The scoring format in play will be no-ad short sets to four with a tiebreak at 5-5; the third set will be a match tiebreak in lieu of a full set.
Following practice days on Wednesday and Thursday, first matches will be on court at 8:00 a.m. Friday morning on both the Team USA and Collegiate courts. Friday and Saturday is set for group play, with match time slots slated for 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. on both days. After the completion of the 9:30 a.m. matches on Saturday, the tournament transitions to its playoff rounds for the afternoon, with the team champions to be crowned on Sunday.
Both championship duals, taking place on Collegiate courts 1-2 and 7-8, will be broadcast live starting at 8:00 a.m. and can be watched here.
Established in 1991, USTA Junior Team Tennis provides youth with all of the health and social benefits of tennis in a coed, fun and competitive environment – all while allowing participants to compete with and against individuals of similar ages and skill levels.
With more than 85,000 players competing nationwide, USTA Junior Team Tennis brings players together to enjoy camaraderie and teamwork, providing a fun environment for kids to learn that succeeding is really more about how they play the game – win or lose.
Each year the USTA crowns a national champion in two age divisions (14U and 18U) in both the Intermediate and Advanced classifications. In last year’s 14U competition, the OC Dream Team representing the Southern California Section brought home the Advanced crown while Northern California’s Cal Tennis Club The Council captured the Intermediate title.
