The 2018 USTA Junior Team Tennis 18 & Under National Championships, held at the USTA National Campus, will begin play Friday, Nov. 9 at 8 a.m. Matches will fill up the 32 hard courts across the Campus for the entire weekend.

The event will feature 32 teams in total, with 16 competing in the Advanced division and another 16 taking part in the Intermediate division. The Intermountain Section has not entered a team in either competition; additionally, Hawaii Pacific will not be represented on the Intermediate side while Florida and Southern California are absent from the Advanced field.

Using the World Team Tennis format, each team dual match is composed of five individual matchups – boys’ singles, girls’ singles, boys’ doubles, girls’ doubles and mixed doubles. The scoring format in play will be no-ad sets to six with a tiebreak at 5-5; the third set will be a match tiebreak in lieu of a full set.

Wednesday and Thursday serve as practice days for all teams, while opening matches will get underway at 8 a.m. Friday morning on both the Team USA and Collegiate courts. All of Friday and the first half of Saturday will see squads taking part in group play, with match time slots slated for 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on both days. After the completion of the 10:30 a.m. matches on Saturday, the tournament transitions to its playoff rounds for the afternoon, with the team champions to be crowned on Sunday.

Both championship duals, taking place on Collegiate courts 1-2 and 7-8 starting at 8 a.m., will be broadcast live and can be watched here.

Established in 1991, USTA Junior Team Tennis provides youth with all of the health and social benefits of tennis in a coed, fun and competitive environment – all while allowing participants to compete with and against individuals of similar ages and skill levels.

With more than 85,000 players competing nationwide, USTA Junior Team Tennis brings players together to enjoy camaraderie and teamwork, providing a fun environment for kids to learn that succeeding is really more about how they play the game – win or lose.

Each year the USTA crowns a national champion in two age divisions (14U and 18U) in both the Intermediate and Advanced classifications. In last year’s 18U competition, Southern (Southern Reign) defeated Northern California (Bay Club Courtside) by an impressive 54-32 margin in the Advanced final while Northern California (Laguna Creek Racquet Club) held off Texas (Berry Creek) 49-36 for the Intermediate crown.
