2018 USTA League National Adult 18 & Over 5.0+ Championships
Three Titles up for Grabs this Weekend
October 10, 2018

The second weekend of USTA League National Championships play at the USTA National Campus is set to get underway Friday morning, as the 2.5 women along with the 3.5 men and women will all be in action.
In a change to this year’s format, teams will compete in a total of four unflighted matches against randomly selected opponents. Every team will play two dual matches on Friday and two more on Saturday. On Sunday, the top four teams (based on TennisLink standings) will advance to the semifinals with the championship and third-place matches to follow.
All 17 USTA Sections will have a team vying for the women’s 2.5 and 3.5 national league titles. In the men’s 3.5 competition, the Southwest Section is the lone section missing. A full listing of teams competing in each division can be found at the following links: 2.5 women; 3.5 men; 3.5 women.
All women’s 2.5 dual matches will consist of one court of singles and two courts of doubles, while the 3.5 men and women will be playing a total of two singles and three doubles contests in every match.
Play will get underway at 7 a.m. daily.
The 2.5 women will be looking for much better weather this time around, as teams saw their championship day washed out last year in Mobile, Ala. That resulted in a four-way tie for the national league title: Florida (Florida Yacht Club – Jacksonville), Missouri Valley (Vetta West – Saint Charles, Mo.), Pacific Northwest (Robinswood Tennis Center – Bellevue, Wash.) and Southern (Leftwich Tennis Center – Memphis, Tenn.). The Robinswood Tennis Center will look to defend the title this weekend.
In the 3.5 division, the men representing Texas (Homer Ford Tennis Center – Houston) defeated the Caribbean (Puerto Rico) squad, 4-1, to earn the team title. Florida (Midtown Athletic Club – Weston) bested Intermountain (Colorado Athletic Club Monaco – Denver, Colo.) by the same score on the women’s side.
Established in 1980, USTA League has grown from 13,000 players in a few parts of the country in its first year to more than 900,000 players across the nation today, making it the world’s largest recreational tennis league.
USTA League was established to provide adult recreational players throughout the country with the opportunity to compete against players of similar ability levels. Players participate on teams in a league format, which is administered by the USTA through its 17 sections. The league groups players by using six National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) levels, ranging from 2.5 (entry) to 5.0 (advanced). USTA League is open to any USTA member 18 years of age or older.
