A staple of the junior event calendar at the USTA National Campus, the USTA Florida August Level 5 Championships makes its return August 3-5. The tournament will feature some of the state’s best players in the 12s-18s age divisions.

Each division consists of 32 competitors, with a feed-in consolation draw through the round of 16. The match format for the tournament is the best 2-of-3 tiebreak sets with a 10-point tiebreak to be played in lieu of a full third set. Seeding was completed using the players’ Universal Tennis Rating (UTR). USTA Florida utilizes UTR as a tool to seed at the Level 3, 4, and 5 events.

Players earning divisional No. 1 seeds in the boys’ draws include Davis Burns (Fleming Island) in the 18s, Adrian Pawlowski (Sarasota) for the 16s, Oumar Diallo (Miramar) in the 14s, and Carlos Silvestre (Doral) for the 12s.

Burns played his way to the final of the 18s division at last year’s event as the top seed. His summer results have included reaching the championship match at a USTA National Level 3 event in July. Pawlowski will be looking to improve on his last appearance at the National Campus, where he lost in the round of 16 at the USTA Florida March Level 4 event. In other action, he did claim the consolation title at the USTA Florida Level 5 Seminole County tournament last October as an unseeded player.

For Diallo, he is coming off participating in the USTA Boys’ 14s National Clay Court Championships. Additionally, in his last appearance at the National Campus, he battled his way to earn the consolation trophy at the USTA Florida “Bobby Curtis” Junior Sectional Championships in the 14s division. Silvestre most recently took third at a USTA National Level 3 event in July despite being unseeded; he was also in the 12s draw at the "Bobby Curtis" Championships earlier in the summer on Campus, reaching the round of 16.

On the girls’ side, top seeds were awarded to Kaheao Companion (Saint Cloud) in the 18s, Allison Isaacs (Boca Raton) for the 16s, Lilly Pleasant (Orlando) in the 14s, and Marcella Roversi (Duval) for the 12s.

Companion has spent some time competing on the ITF Circuit, but has also won a pair of NTRP open events this summer. Isaacs most recently competed at the USTA Girls’ 16s National Clay Court Championships, where she won two matches in consolation action. She has found her share of success at the National Campus, taking home the 16s consolation crown in June at the USTA Florida “Bobby Curtis” Junior Sectional Championships to go along with placing sixth at this tournament a year ago.

Perhaps no player in the field is more familiar with the National Campus than Pleasant. Her last three events were all held on the grounds, including reaching the finals in the 14s at the USTA Florida Doubles Spring Challenge and at the UTR Summer Jam Level 7. Roversi lost in the round of 16 in the 2018 edition of the event as an unseeded player. Her last tournament was held at the National Campus, as she won three matches in total (one main draw and two consolation) in the 12s division at the "Bobby Curtis" Championships.
