The 2019 USTA National Campus UTR Summer Jam Level 7 concluded Sunday afternoon. Among the 10 divisional champions were a total six unseeded players while just one of the No. 1 seeds managed to take home a title at the conclusion of play.
On the boys’ side, the winners were split with three seeds coming through to go along with a trio of competitors not seeded in their respective draw. In the only boys’ final featuring an unseeded matchup, Juanjose Moran (Kissimmee) defeated J. Pablo Gortari (Orlando) 6-3, 6-3 in the 2.00-3.03 Draw. Joining Moran were Jordan Lee (Orlando), who emerged victorious from a marathon 6-0, 3-6, 10-8 championship encounter versus No. 4 seed Victor Valentin Adante Henao (Kissimmee) in the 3.58-5.04 12s-14s Draw, and Kiran Ellis (Lakeland), thanks to his impressive 6-2, 6-1 ousting of second seed Samuel Chapman (Panama City) in the final of the 3.73-5.17 14s-18s Draw.
Representing the seeded champions on the day was No. 2 Daniel Krechler (Prague, Czech Republic) out of the 3.04-3.57 Draw after he managed to overcome Tristan Bradu (Orlando) 7-5, 6-3. Of the four girls’ finals on Sunday, two were of the all-unseeded variety. Rachel Ames (Ocala) and Lauren Cisco (Vero Beach) played an extended match with the 1.08-2.98 title on the line, with Ames eventually prevailing 6-0, 4-6, 13-11. In a more straight-forward fashion, Veronika Nash (Daytona Beach) won 6-2, 6-4 over Marcella Warner (Flagler Beach) in the 2.98-4.15 final.
Second seed Sophia Nobles (Tampa) ended up being the only seed on the girls’ side to capture first place after her comprehensive 6-1, 6-1 performance in the 4.16-6.14 championship matchup with No. 3 Peyton Battilla (Auburndale). Riverside, Calif., native Lexie Flores made the most of her cross-country trip, ousting both seeds in the 6.56-8.31 Draw to take home the title; she defeated No. 1 Lilly Pleasant (Orlando) 6-3, 7-5 in the final.
