April 8, 2021

More than 200 competitors will be in action this weekend at the USTA National, which is set to host the 2021 NTRP 50 & Over National Singles Championships April 9-11. Men’s and women’s players ranging from the 3.0 to the 4.5 NTRP levels have traveled from all parts of the country to partake in this prestigious national event.
Match play will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 9 with round-robin group play kicking off each division. On the men’s side, the 3.0 division features 17 players divided in Groups A-D, while the 3.5 competition consists of 33 individuals placed into Groups A-H. The largest men’s division, 36 players make up the 4.0 Groups A-I to go along with the 24 that will take part in the Groups A-F in the 4.5 competition.
In the women’s divisions, both the 3.0 and 4.0 have 24 competitors entered, starting off in Groups A-F. The 3.5 competition is the largest for the women, where 30 players make up Groups A-H; a total of 16 players are slated to vie for the 4.5 division, which features Groups A-D.
Following the completions of group play, the competitors will be placed into a playoff draw based on their round-robin results. All matches will be the best-of-three short sets (first to four games) with no-ad scoring. A five-point tiebreaker is to be played at three games all; if the tiebreaker reaches 4-4, the next point wins and a racquet spin will determine which player serves on the decisive point.
