USTA Florida Adult League action is set to take over the grounds of the USTA National Campus once again this weekend, with the 40 & Over 2.5/3.5/4.5 Sectional Championships scheduled to begin the morning of Saturday, July 24 and run through the afternoon of Monday, July 26.

Squads will be competing in dual matches consisting of one singles court along with three lines of doubles. The men’s and women’s 3.5 divisions will be contested on the clay courts while the remaining three competitions will play out on the hard courts.

A total of only five teams – Alachua, Brevard, Hillsborough, Marion, and Orange/Seminole – will be vying for the women’s 2.5 crown, making it the only division of the event that will be strictly round-robin play. Each team will play two dual matches on Saturday with another two taking place on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the women’s 3.5 division will see a staggering 23 crews battling it out in two separate flights, with 11 of those being placed in Flight 1 and the other 12 opening the weekend in Flight 2. From there, just the top two finishers from each flight will advance to the divisional semifinals slated for Monday. Despite having nine fewer entrants, the men’s 3.5 competition will be on a similar schedule, with its flighted duals on the schedule for Saturday and Sunday; their semifinal stage will feature the trio of flight winners along with the runner-up with the best overall record.

The men’s and women’s 4.5 competitions are composed of two flights, which will produce a championship contest featuring the winner of Flight 1 clashing with the winner from Flight 2. In total, the men’s division will start with nine teams and the women’s will open up play with 10.

Defending champions from last year’s event include the 2.5 women from Alachua (Haile Plantation Country Club – Gainesville), the 3.5 women representing Pinellas (Bardmoor Golf Tennis Club – Largo), the 3.5 men’s crew from Brevard (Kiwi Tennis Club – Indian Harbour Beach), the 4.5 women’s squad from Orange/Seminole (Heathrow Country Club), and the men’s 4.5 team representing Miami-Dade (Salvadore Park – Coral Gables).

Matches are set to begin Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. For more information on the 2021 USTA Florida Adult 40 & Over 2.5/3.5/4.5 Sectional Championships, click here.
