Alabama Dominates
Day One of Wheelchair Championships
Erin Maher | April 20, 2018

The University of Alabama dominated on day one of the 2018 Wheelchair Tennis Collegiate National Championships.
The Crimson Tide rode on a wave of victory, taking all of the singles matches with the exception of one.
Paralympian Shelby Baron and University of Florida sophomore Chris Herman each won both their matches in the Singles A flight.
Herman dropped only five games on day one in both of his singles matches, notching wins over Jose Estrada, 6-0, 6-1, and Grand Valley State’s Christopher Kelley, 6-4, 6-0.
In doubles action, Herman teamed up with Stony Brook University Freshman Nathan Melnyk to win both of their matches in their gold flight today.
The duo managed to topple not one, but two University of Alabama teams.
Herman and Melnyk defeated Lauren Haneke-Hopps and Alex Saporito, 8-2, and toppled Sean Burns and Avery Downing, 8-0.
