The final two matches of the USTA Florida Combo 18 & Over 5.5/7.5/9.5 Sectional Championships took place Monday morning on the grounds of the USTA National Campus. Both duals wrapped up in less than 90 minutes, with the Alachua (Haile Plantation Country Club – Gainesville) 5.5 women and Hillsborough (Tampa Yacht & Country Club) 7.5 women prevailing.

They join the Broward (Midtown Athletic Club – Weston) 7.5 men, the Okaloosa/Walton/Bay (Rosemary Beach Racquet Club) 9.5 men, and the Hillsborough (The Club at Cheval – Lutz) 9.5 women as divisional winners at the event.

Alachua claimed the top two courts against South Miami-Dade (Crandon Park Tennis Center – Key Biscayne) to take home the women’s 5.5 crown. Ashley Spink and Marisa Rodriguez breezed through the matchup at the second spot with a 6-2, 6-0 result; meanwhile, Judith Bertran and Linda Garcia-Crespo turned in a 6-4, 6-3 effort on court one. South Miami-Dade’s Silvana Larrarte and Audimely Ferrebus prevented the sweep by winning 6-3, 6-3 at line three.

Jodi Cox is the captain of the Alachua 5.5 women’s squad that includes a full roster of Irina Madorsky, Spink, Dahao Ling, Quynn Gingrich, Rodriguez, Kristen King, Garcia-Crespo, Shannon Sumerlin, Amy Whitaker, Carmen Cornell, Kelsey Hill, Bertran, Tara Edelstein, Stephanie Tangeman, and Hebah Fox.

The women’s 7.5 final played out in a similar fashion, with Hillsborough coming out on top at lines one and two in their victory over Orange/Seminole/Lake (Red Bug Lake Park – Casselberry). Hillsborough duo Beth Thompson and Meagan Brandriff won at court one by a 6-3, 6-2 margin to go along with teammates Kristine Chunn and Kristy Wilander dropping the same amount of games in their 6-4, 6-1 triumph at the second position. The Orange/Seminole/Lake pairing of Quynh Sunhachawi and Christina Le got their team on the board by winning line three 6-4, 6-0.

Captain Amy Shoukry’s complete Hillsborough roster consists of Brandriff, Aspen Kahl, Lesley Metzler, Thompson, Sarah Harrod, Melissa O’Connor, Michelle Wolfe, Wilander, Kelly Ruggles, Christine Dietrich, Patricia Brawley, Anne Compton, Chunn, and Paige Murtagh.
