Women's $15K USTA National Campus Pro Tennis Classic
American Sophie Chang Earns Singles Crown
March 11, 2018

On the final day of play at the $15K USTA National Campus Pro Tennis Classic, No. 3 seed American Sophie Chang capped off a tremendous week by defeating No. 6 seed Astra Sharma of Australia 6-3, 7-6(6).
Fresh off a stellar performance yesterday, Chang raced out of the gates quickly once again on Sunday, breaking Sharma's opening service game of the match en route to a 3-0 lead. That would be all she needed in the first frame, as she was able to maintain that advantage to secure it 6-3.
The Australian did not allow the same to happen in set number two. In what turned out to be a back-and-forth affair, a tiebreak would ultimately decide the winner. Even in the tiebreak, 12 points was not enough, but eventually Chang prevailed by the slimmest of margins, 8-6.
Chang's impressive run to the title in Orlando featured five victories in straight sets, with her only being pushed to a tiebreak twice. She defeated a pair of seeds, No. 7 Katerina Stewart in the quarterfinals and No. 2 Chanel Simmonds in the semifinals, prior to taking down sixth seed Sharma on Sunday.
This was the second pro tennis event to be held at the USTA National Campus this year. Another USTA Pro Circuit women's event took place at the campus in January.
