2021 WTT National Qualifier Orlando
Busy Day Two Across All Divisions
March 21, 2021

Saturday marked the second day of play at the 2021 World Team Tennis National Qualifier Orlando, being held on the grounds of the USTA National Campus. Highlighting the action was a trio of squads earning their spot in the 2021 World Team Tennis National Championships later this year while another two teams have unofficially locked up a berth into the main event.
Wrapping up their respective division on Saturday were the Match Makers (Oxford, N.C.) in the 4.0 competition, Game, Set, Mimosas Too (Pinecrest, Fla.) in the Senior 4.5 division, and Babes & Boomers (Miami) in the Super Senior 4.0 competition.
After the Match Makers survived a one-point after with Sindecuse (Weldon Spring, Mo.) to begin the weekend, they turned in a pair of convincing victories to wrap up the 4.0 title with a perfect 3-0 record. They downed Reverse Strokes (Leawood, Kan.) 35-22 on Saturday morning before returning to the courts for a 36-17 result against Reiss (Fairview Heights, Ill.). The three other teams in the division finished with 1-2 overall records.
Game, Set, Mimosas Too squared off with Bad Gramps (Shiloh, Ill.), the only other team to enter the Senior 4.5 competition, twice on Saturday. In the morning matchup, the Sunshine State crew prevailed by a 32-19 margin; for the afternoon dual, it was a 36-14 runaway for Game, Set, Mimosas Too to clinch the division.
Babes & Boomers held off in-state foe Florida Breeze (Nokomis, Fla.) by a 29-25 score line in their morning session clash in the Super Senior 4.0 competition. With those two squads being the only two in the running for the title, they were across the net from each other once again in the afternoon, where Babes & Boomers were a little more convincing with a 31-20 victory.
With matches still to be played, Pandamonium (Raleigh, N.C.) and Evergreen (Montville, N.J.) have mathematically secured divisional crowns. Pandamonium sits at 3-0 in the 3.5 division, while the Tri-City Aces (Delanson, N.Y.) hold a 1-2 record and Fireball (Tulsa, Okla.) is winless so far. They will be seeking a sterling 4-0 performance when they take on Fireball Sunday afternoon; in their first three duals, Pandamonium came through with double-digit wins.
Meanwhile, Evergreen is the lone unbeaten in the Senior 3.5 competition with one round left on the schedule. They came into the day at 2-0 and only played once, defeating the Hurry Canes (O’Fallon, Ill.) 27-20 to maintain their place at the top of the standings. With the Hurry Canes and Double Trouble (Delray Beach, Fla.), both sitting at 2-1, going against each other on Sunday, Evergreen would still hold the head-to-head tiebreak even if they are upset by the 0-3 Miami Buckeyes in their final match.
It will be a winner-take-all battle on Sunday in the 4.5 division, where the Hall of Framers (Columbia, S.C.) and G-Money and the Geriatric Fun Bunch (Olathe, Kan.) have split their first two tightly-contested meetings. The Hall of Framers claimed victory in round one by the slimmest of margins, 27-26, before G-Money responded with a 28-26 effort.
The Miami Heaters are the favorites to take the Super Senior 3.5 title thanks to going 3-for-3 so far, but Double Vision (Livingston, N.J.) remains in the mix heading into Sunday. Double Vision will need to defeat Have Aspercreme Will Travel (Shiloh, Ill.) in the morning round for a second time on the weekend to set up a high stakes dual with the Heaters in the afternoon. The Heaters took the first match between the two squads by four, 26-22.
In the nine-team Senior 4.0 division, Fire and Ice (San Diego) is one win away from advancing to the championship match from Flight A while Evergreen (Long Valley, N.J.) has already clinched Flight B. Silver Alert! (Raleigh, N.C.) will be the last opponent standing in the way of Fire and Ice; should Silver Alert! prevail and Cookie Monsters (Belleville, Ill.) get past Florida Breeze (Nokomis, Fla.) on Sunday, that would create a three-way tie in the flight. For 3-0 Evergreen, they picked up a crucial 33-32 victory over the Hurricane Hunters (Miami) on Saturday in a clash of the two teams in the flight with winning records. Evergreen will take on the Terminetters (Cohoes, N.Y.) Sunday looking for a perfect run through the field in Flight B.
Sundays matches are set to begin at 8:30 a.m. For more information on the 2021 World Team Tennis National Qualifier Orlando, click here.
