November 14, 2019

Thursday completed the fourth day of play at the 2019 Oracle Pro Series Orlando, hosted by the USTA National Campus. The men’s and women’s singles draws are now down to the final eight while the two doubles draws will put their semifinal matches on court Friday.
Marking the sixth of seven stops of the Oracle Pro Series this fall, the week features men’s and women’s ITF World Tennis Tour $25k events.
Fifth-seeded Ulises Blanch (United States) recorded his second consecutive win in straight sets, defeating qualifier Alan Kohen (Argentina) 6-1, 6-3 to move on to the quarterfinals. Fellow American Alfredo Perez had his run put to an end by another qualifier Dragos Constantin Ignat (Romania) by a 6-4, 6-2 score line.
All men’s seeds left in the draw got through to the quarterfinals, with only No. 3 Nicolas Alvarez (Peru) needing three sets, as he defeated Justin Roberts (Bahamas) 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Winning in straight sets were top-seeded Javier Barranco Cosano (Spain), No. 2 Pedro Sakamoto (Brazil), fourth seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry (Argentina), seventh-seeded Adam Moundir (Morocco) and No. 8 Bastian Malla (Chile).
Blanch kept his hopes of sweeping the men’s titles alive thanks to pairing up with Genaro Alberto Olivieri (Argentina) to take down Americans Nathan Ponwith and Preston Touliatos 6-1, 6-4. Next up for them is the top-seeded team of Alvarez and Sakamoto after they held off a late rally from American wild cards JanMagnus Johnson and Logan Zapp 6-1, 6-4. The bottom half of the draw will see No. 3 seeds Justin Butsch (United States) and Juan Manuel Cerundolo (Argentina) across the net from Charlie Emhardt (United States) and Perez.
On the women’s side, No. 1 Aranxta Rus (Netherlands) looked much sharper on Wednesday, taking just over one hour to record a 6-2, 6-2 result against American qualifier Dasha Ivanova. Joining her in the quarterfinals will be fellow seeded competitors No. 7 Renata Zarazua (Mexico) and No. 8 Stephanie Wagner (Germany), as both also got off the court in straight sets.
American Claire Liu, involved in the last match to finish Wednesday evening, got off to a sluggish start but quickly turned the tables on sixth seed Daniela Seguel (Chile) for a 6-3, 6-1 victory. In the longest match of the day, wild card Maria Mateas (United States) ousted countrywoman qualifier Chanelle Van Nguyen 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in a clash of former collegiate All-Americans.
The top half of the women’s doubles draw was decimated by two walkovers, with Americans Angela Kulikov and Rianna Valdes along with the duo of Katharine Fahey (United States) and Wagner benefitting; those two pairs will face off in one of Friday’s semifinals. In the other, unseeded tandem Lea Boskovic (Croatia) and Seone Mendez (Australia) is set to battle No. 3 seeds Carolina Meligeni Rodrigues Alves (Brazil) and Renata Zarazua (Mexico), with both Mendez and Zarazua are still in the running for the singles and doubles titles.
