Americans Marcos Giron and Michael Redlicki reached the singles semifinals at the Orlando Open on Friday, both career-best results for the pair of unseeded players.

Giron has previously reached the quarterfinals of an ATP Challenger Tour event eight times in his career, but Friday marked his first victory, as he cruised by No. 14 seed Mathias Bourgue, of France, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the semifinals. The former NCAA singles champion at UCLA will take on No. 12 seed Gastao Elias of Portugal, who knocked off Croatia’s Nino Serdarusic in straight sets.

Redlicki, who received a main draw wild card to the tournament, continued his remarkable run, defeating a fellow American for the third straight match, this time needing a third-set tiebreak to take down Ulises Blanch. He will face top-seeded Darian King of Barbabos, the owner of three ATP Challenger Tour titles, who defeated fifth-seeded Norbert Gombos of Slovakia in the quarterfinals after being pushed to a third set for the first time all tournament.

Friday also saw the doubles final take shape as the top-seeded pair of Romain Arneodo of Monaco and Andrei Vasilevski of Belarus advanced to the championship. The second doubles semifinal was postponed due to weather during the third-set super tiebreak and will resume in the morning prior to the final.

The Orlando Open, which is a USTA Pro Circuit ATP Challenger event, is the first USTA Pro Circuit ATP Challenger event of the 2019 season and is the highest level of tennis on display to date at the USTA National Campus, with a prize-money pool of more than $54,000.

Play continues Saturday with the doubles final at 11 a.m. followed by the singles semifinals. Admission to the Orlando Open is free.
