The second day of the ITF W25 Orlando event featured the end of qualifying singles action along with the start of main draw play in doubles.

Two of the final round qualifying matches were all-American affairs, as Katrina Scott ousted University of Texas freshman Peyton Stearns 6-3, 6-4 while Sophia Whittle bested Gabriella Price 6-4, 6-2. Other Americans booking their place in the main draw were Maria Mateas, Katie Volynets, and Kayla Day.

Three additional competitors were also victorious on Tuesday in the last round of the qualifying draw – Amina Anshba (Russia), Panna Udvardy (Hungary), and Maria Lourdes Carle (Argentina).

In a stunning development, all four seeded doubles teams were eliminated in the opening round. Top-seeded Americans Quinn Gleason and Ingrid Neel came up short in a marathon battle with Serbian Jovana Jovic and Slovakian Rebecca Sramkova, falling 2-6, 7-5, 16-14. Also in the top half of the draw, fourth-seeded Naiktha Bains (Great Britain) and Aldila Sutjiadi (Indonesia) were toppled 6-3, 6-4 by Colombian Maria Camila Osorio Serrano and Swiss Conny Perrin.

Former UCLA teammates, No. 3 seeds Robin Anderson and Catherine Harrison lost a tightly-contested battle with Gabriela Talaba (Romania) and Marcela Zacarias (Mexico) by a 7-5, 7-6(5) margin; American Emina Bektas teamed up with Tara Moore (Great Britain) to upset the second-seeded Indonesian pair of Beatrice Gumulya and Jessy Rompies 6-3, 4-6, 10-3.

Joining those tandems in the final eight will be Ekaterine Gorgodze (Georgia) and Katie Swan (Great Britain), Spanish duo Irene Burillo Escorihuela and Andrea Lazaro Garcia, Anshba and Georgian partner Mariam Bolkvadze, and the American sister pairing of Allura and Maribella Zamarripa.

Wednesday’s schedule of play, including the first round of the singles main draw, is slated to get underway at 10 a.m. The ITF W25 Orlando event is closed to the public. For more information, including draws and daily schedule of play, click here.
