The 2020 USTA Florida 40 & Over Men’s 3.0/4.0/4.5+ & Women’s 4.5+ Sectional Championships concluded on Monday as the men’s 4.5+ winner was crowned. The crew from Miami-Dade (Salvadore Park – Coral Gables) defeated Duval (San Jose Country Club – Jacksonville) 2-1 to take home the trophy.

Miami-Dade joins the men’s 3.0 squad from Broward (Midtown Athletic Club – Weston), the men’s 4.0 team representing Broward (Parkland Tennis Center), and the women’s 4.5+ group from Orange/Seminole (Heathrow Country Club) as sectional champions from the event.

In the lone match of the day, Shay Coker and Todd Rubinstein got Miami-Dade off to a hot start by racing through the contest at the top doubles spot 6-0, 6-2. Felipe Echeverri had also won the opening frame 6-0 in singles, but saw his lead evaporate. However, teammates Alex Barrellier and Raymond Hackney were able to produce a comeback on the second doubles court to secure the clinching 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 victory for Miami-Dade.

Captained by Hackney, the Miami-Dade squad consists of Denis Pierrot, Barrellier, Andres Carrero, Tony Franco, Coker, Rubinstein, Olivier Hernandez, Andrew Hellinger, Robert Gorham, Mauricio Gomm Santos, Jorge Ramirez, Paulo Lemann, Echeverri, Danny van der Reis, Mauricio Morales, and Lisardo Garcia.
