USTA League National Adult 18 & Over 5.0+ Championships
Ready for Play Friday Morning
October 5, 2017

With the National Campus to host five USTA League National Adult Championships this fall, the first is on the event calendar for this weekend.
Featuring some of the nation’s most talented adult players on men’s and women’s teams from 15 of the USTA’s Sections, the National Adult 18 & Over 5.0+ Championships hits the courts Friday morning beginning at 7 am. Round robin flight play will fill Friday’s and Saturday’s slate, with those dual matches to determine which teams advance.
Each dual match consists of one singles and two doubles contests. A team must claim at least two of those matchups to win the dual. With both the men’s and women’s events made up of three flights, the trio of flight winners plus a wild card squad will earn semifinal berths.
All semifinals are scheduled for first serve at 7:30 am Sunday morning with the title and third/fourth playoff matches to follow. A full listing of the women’s flights and match schedule can be viewed here, and the men’s here.
In last year’s championships, both men’s and women’s team winners hailed from the Southern Section – and more specifically, Charlotte, N.C. On the women’s side, the squad slipped by Northern California in the final, while the men overcame their final opponent from USTA Texas.
Established in 1980, USTA League has grown from 13,000 players in a few parts of the country in its first year to more than 900,000 players across the nation today, making it the world’s largest recreational tennis league.
USTA League was established to provide adult recreational players throughout the country with the opportunity to compete against players of similar ability levels. Players participate on teams in a league format, which is administered by the USTA through its 17 sections. The league groups players by using six National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) levels, ranging from 2.5 (entry) to 5.0 (advanced). USTA League is open to any USTA member 18 years of age or older.
