USTA League National Adult 40 & Over 4.0 Championships
Ready for Play Friday Morning
October 19, 2017
After a weekend away, USTA League brings another national championship to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. Starting Friday morning and running through Sunday afternoon, the National Adult 40 & Over 4.0 Championships will be contested on the Team USA hard courts.
All 17 USTA sections will be represented on both the men’s and women’s side, with each division being broken down into four flights; one flight on each side is composed of five teams while the others consist of four. Matches will get underway at 7 am on Friday, kicking off the start of round robin flight play, which will continue until the end of Saturday’s slate.
Each dual match is made up of two singles and three doubles contests. A team must claim at least three of those matchups to win the dual. With both the men’s and women’s events featuring four flights, only the flight winners will advance on to the championships semifinals to compete for the national title.
All semifinals are scheduled for first serve at 7 am Sunday morning with the title and third/fourth playoff matches to follow. A full listing of the women’s flights and match schedule can be viewed here, and the men’s here.
In last year’s National Adult 40 & Over 4.0 Championships, South Miami-Dade (Florida) bested NJD-Gloucester County (Middle States) by a slim 3-2 margin to claim the men’s trophy. AYTC (Pacific Northwest) took down NOVA Sum (Mid-Atlantic) by the same final tally to earn the women’s crown.
Established in 1980, USTA League has grown from 13,000 players in a few parts of the country in its first year to more than 900,000 players across the nation today, making it the world’s largest recreational tennis league.
USTA League was established to provide adult recreational players throughout the country with the opportunity to compete against players of similar ability levels. Players participate on teams in a league format, which is administered by the USTA through its 17 sections.
The league groups players by using six National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) levels, ranging from 2.5 (entry) to 5.0 (advanced). USTA League is open to any USTA member 18 years of age or older.
