Wrapping up its inaugural year of operation in fitting fashion, the USTA National Campus will serve as one of two host sites for the 2017 USTA National Winter Championships Dec. 27-Jan. 2. Top junior players from across the USTA’s 17 Sections in the boys’ and girls’ 16s and 18s age divisions will compete in singles and doubles in the final junior national championship of the calendar year. The 12s and 14s divisions will be contested at the Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz.

Eight draws in total will be contested at the National Campus, with the four singles draws featuring 128 players each and the four doubles draws each composed of 64 pairs. All main draw singles matches will play best of three tiebreak sets using regular scoring. All main draw doubles matches will be the best of three tiebreak sets with a match tiebreak in lieu of a third set up until the semifinals, where the remaining matches will play a full third set.

The boys’ divisions are set to be played on hard courts while the girls’ divisions will be held on clay courts. Play kicks off on Wednesday with all round of 128 singles matches and round of 64 doubles matches. Consolation action will begin on Thursday for singles; there will be no consolation draws in doubles.

Carson Haskins (Ballwin, Mo.) is the top seed in the boys’ 18s draw while Maxwell McKennon (Newport Beach, Calif.), last year’s champion in the 14s, earned top billing in the 16s this year. On the girls’ side, defending girls’ 18s champion Chelsea Kung (Fort Worth, Texas) is the No. 1 seed and Gianna Pielet (El Paso, Texas) sits atop the draw in the girls’ 16s.

Other winners from a year ago that will be in action include boys’ 14s doubles champion JJ Tracy, girls’ 14s victor Jenna DeFalco, girls’ 16s singles winner Angelica Blake, girls’ 16s doubles champions Briana Crowley and Reilly Tran, boys’ 16s doubles winner Christian Alshon and girls’ 18s doubles victor Ivana Corley.
