USTA National Campus Pro Tennis Classic
Kalinina Outlasts Grabher for Singles Title
January 21, 2018

The final match of the USTA National Campus Pro Tennis Classic turned out to be a lengthy battle between top seed Anhelina Kalinina, of Ukraine, and Julia Grabher, of Austria. But after two hours and 38 minutes of intense rallies, it was Ahnelina who prevailed 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.
Ranked No. 154 in the world, 20-year-old Anhelina played a solid opening set, running away with it after the two players traded early breaks. Grabher turned the tables quickly in the second, taking a 2-0 lead and hanging on to forced a decisive third frame.
While both players faced a few precarious situations on serve, they were able to hold until Anhelina broke for 5-3. However, she was not able to serve out the victory, with Grabher fighting off several match points to level the score at 5-5.
Anhelina displayed tremendous toughness in the next game, managing to shake off the disappointment of letting those match points slip away. She produced a hold to move in front 6-5, and when Grabher stumbled to a 0-40 deficit while trying to send the set into a tiebreak, Anhelina made sure to cash in on the opportunity to secure the title.
Now the owner of eight USTA Pro Circuit/ITF Pro Circuit singles titles, Anhelina was also the winner at the $25,000 event in Daytona Beach a week ago.
Prior to the singles final, a free Net Generation Team Challenge with local youth players was held.
"We had an extremely successful wek at the USTA National Campus hosting this USTA Pro Circuit event," said tournament director Milagros Sequera Huss. "There was such a high-level of tennis all week and the fans were treated to entertaining matches. We also had well-attended community events where we gained new fans and celebrated tennis, while the collaboration amongst various USTA departments made this event go off without a hitch. We thank everyone for coming out to the USTA National Campus for a memorable week."
This was the first pro tennis event to be held at the USTA National Campus this year and one of two events scheduled at the campus in 2018, as another USTA Pro Circuit women's event will take place in March.
