USTA Florida Combo 18 & Over 5.5/7.5/9.5 Sectional Championships
Six More Sectional Titles to be Claimed
December 7, 2017

Six state titles are up for grabs this weekend, as men’s and women’s teams from the 5.5, 7.5 and 9.5 divisions will compete in the final USTA Florida Sectional Championships of the year at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
Teams will begin the route to the championship through round robin dual match play Friday and Saturday. A team dual match consists of three doubles contests, where a squad must claim two victories to record the win. Teams must finish atop their respective flight to clinch a berth in the semifinals, where the flight victors will compete for state superiority.
The men's 5.5 and 9.5 divisions will play single-flight competition. On the 5.5 side, teams will face off in a best of six contests, with a tiebreaker if necessary to determine a champion. On the 9.5 side, teams will play off in a best of four matches with a tiebreaker if necessary as well.
Sunday’s semifinal matches will begin at 9 a.m., with division championship matches to follow. A full listing of the 5.5 flights and match schedule can be viewed here, and the 7.5 division here, and the 9.5 here.
In last year’s section championships, St. John’s County defeated Escambia County for the women's 5.5 title while Leon County took down Alachua County to claim the men's 5.5 crown. For the 7.5 division, the Orange County women swept Palm Beach County North 3-0, but the men’s final was a close contest, with Alachua County besting Palm Beach County 2-1. The 9.5 division ended in round robin tie breakers, both featuring Broward County against Miami-Dade County South, where Broward took both contests.
Established in 1980, USTA League has grown from 13,000 players in a few parts of the country in its first year to more than 900,000 players across the nation today, making it the world’s largest recreational tennis league.
USTA League was established to provide adult recreational players throughout the country with the opportunity to compete against players of similar ability levels. Players participate on teams in a league format, which is administered by the USTA through its 17 sections. The league groups players by using six National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) levels, ranging from 2.5 (entry) to 5.0 (advanced). USTA League is open to any USTA member 18 years of age or older.
