With the 2020 USTA Tennis on Campus National Championship on the horizon, club teams representing 12 different colleges and universities from all over the Sunshine State head to the USTA National Campus this weekend for the 2020 USTA Florida Tennis on Campus Sectional Championship. Matches are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday and run through Sunday afternoon.

Participating squads making up this year’s field include University of Florida, UCF, Florida State University, FAU, University of Tampa, Florida Gulf Coast University, University of South Florida, University of Miami, Rollins College, Lynn University, Florida Southern College, and FIT. In total, 32 crews will be in action.

Saturday will feature all teams battling it out in pool play, followed by Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Copper Bracket play on Sunday. Clubs have been divided into eight pools, with each pool winner advancing to the Gold Bracket to compete for the title. The champion and runner-up from the Gold Bracket will automatically qualify for the National Championships in April, also hosted by the National Campus.

At last year’s Championship, the University of Miami A squad snuck past sectional powerhouse University of Florida’s A crew by the slimmest of margins, 22-21, for the program’s first-ever crown. The Gators had earned the team title in four of the previous five seasons.

The USTA’s Tennis on Campus program is designed to provide college students with opportunities for team camaraderie, social networking, and rivaled competition through tennis without the rigors of a NCAA varsity program. Tennis on Campus offers fun co-ed team-based play (using the World Team Tennis scoring format), regional and national championship competition, and helps students maintain active and healthy lifestyles through their college years. Currently the program is offered on more than 500 college campuses. The USTA Tennis on Campus team format features men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and mixed doubles, with a minimum of two men and two women per team.
