A busy month of Sunshine State league events continues this weekend at the USTA National Campus with the USTA Florida Combo 18 & Over 6.5/8.5 Sectional Championships. First matches are slated to begin Saturday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 a.m. with play continuing through Monday, Feb. 22.

Teams will be competing in dual matches consisting of three courts of doubles contests; at least two of those three courts must be won in order to claim the dual.

A total of five squads have entered the men’s 6.5 field – Alachua, Broward, Marion, Orange/Seminole/Lake, and Pinellas. They have all been placed into a single flight, meaning the team with the best overall record after four rounds of play will take home the sectional crown.

Along with the men’s 6.5 division, the women’s 8.5 competition is also scheduled to wrap up Sunday afternoon. Flight play for the eight crews will take place all day Saturday plus Sunday morning, with the two flight champions squaring off in the championship dual Sunday afternoon.

For the women’s 6.5 and men’s 8.5 divisions, the round-robin contests are slated to play out over Saturday and Sunday with finals taking to the courts Monday morning. Nine squads make up the women’s 6.5 field; the men’s 8.5 competition features 10 teams in total.

Divisional defending champions include the Broward (Bonaventure Town Center – Ft. Lauderdale) 6.5 men, the Broward (Dillon Tennis Center – Oakland Park) 6.5 women, the Broward (Weston Tennis Center) 8.5 men, and the Escambia (Roger Scott Tennis Center – Pensacola) 8.5 women.
